All local teams in the greater Edmonton area submit a Volunteer Service Contribution deposit as part of their registration or equipment rental request. Throughout the year, The Festival Association calls for volunteers for a variety of tasks. Any and all of the people-hours your team contributes to work projects will count towards your Volunteer Service Contribution.'

New for 2011 VSC:
- Each team is required to complete 45 hours of VSC service to receive their VSC deposit back.
- VSC hours can only be earned at official EDBFA VSC approved activities.
- All volunteers that would like their hours credited for VSC hours must report to the Event Supervisor immediately upon arrival to provide their information for the VSC Control Sheet. The VSC Control Sheet will be used to calculate the official number of hours that have been approved for each volunteer, so the volunteers must also sign-out with the Event Supervisor at the end of their shift.
- All friends and family volunteers’ hours can be applied to a specific team, which will go towards their VSC hours but they must report to the Event Supervisor immediately upon arrival to complete the required paperwork.
- VSC opportunities will be advertised as far as advance as possible so that people can sign-up in advance. In the event that more volunteers show up then required at the actual VSC opportunity, individuals who have signed-up in advance will be given preference.
- The initial VSC deposit will be refunded at the end of the EDBFA Paddling Season for all teams that have completed their 45 VSC hours.
- For teams that are eligible for additional VSC funds buy completing over 45 VSC hours, payments will be processed prior to the EDBFA’s financial year-end of December 31.
